Waterfalls and Inappropriately named natural outcrops

We headed from our hotel in Vancouver to the Columbia river gorge, a very spectacular and wide gorge with some peculiar houses on it. No pictures sadly but there were houses with water garages - very bizarre! We also passed by Rooster Rock which we didn't stop at or get pictures of but is worth mentioning as it is quite inappropriately named, in both senses of the word. It's shaped like a piece of male anatomy from which it got its original name of Cock Rock, however that was deemed too rude and so they changed it by means of word association rather than shape association to Rooster Rock- made us laugh anyway.

We wended down the gorge looking for Multnomah Falls - and we found it.
It's pretty big as you can see from this picture of us on the bridge

It was quite a walk up to the top of the falls, measured out by numbered hairpin bends on the track. Great views from the top though.

Given how we'd dragged the kids up we thought we'd make the most of it and do a bit of the trail from the top as well. The scenery was rugged and wet which is perfect for the kids
as they can play on the rocks
or chill out by the river reading a book
Heading upstream we found another waterfall
and another chance for Dan to sit in the middle of the stream and read.

Later that day we headed to a spot where you could see 5 peaks on a clear day, it was pretty clear and we could see 4 of them - you can't quite make it out in the picture but you could see Mt Rainier 93 miles away (I could have zoomed in but a blurry picture of a far away mountain does not a blog make).
You can however kind of see the Columbia river in the background in this one
and here it is again, rather lovely.
