Red Rock

As staying in the hotel was the equivalent to smoking 100 cigarettes a day, (if you kept mice in there you'd get animal rights activists complaining) we decided to head to the hills - literally. Another unexpected, to us at least, aspect of Vegas was the spectacular scenery. Vegas is built in the middle of a circle of hills/mountains. You can see the strip from miles away as the immediate vicinity is really flat.
But all around are these great mountains.

Where we stoped and went for a walk. While it was very cool to see so many cacti, what we didn't expect to see in the middle of the desert was snow! The next few pictures were all taken in Spring Mountain Ranch state park.
The highlight of the day though was Red Rock scenic drive, no prizes for guessing why it is called Red Rock.
